Abstract

The longitudinal shear problem for the beam containing closed interface crack with possibility of
sliding friction is considered. A solution of the formulated problem is constructed by applying the
boundary element method of the jump functions. Several forms (square, rectangle) of beam cross
sections exposed to the concentrated shear forces are numerically calculated. The friction zone
width and the displacement dependence on the intensity of the forces and location of their points of
application, the aspect ratio of the beam cross-section and shear modulus of the beam materials
are analyzed. Comparison of the data for the square timber in partial cases with the
corresponding analytical solution for bimaterial has confirmed the accuracy of the results and
effectiveness of the methodology applied to the solution of this class of problems.
