The propagation of Rayleigh waves in non-ferromagnetic dielectrics

Abstract

Using the nonlocal theory of deformation of non-ferromagnetic polarized solids, the regularities of
Rayleigh wave propagation in elastic half-space of the ideal dielectric are studied. The
corresponding dispersion equation that determines the velocity of these waves is obtained. The
effect of local mass displacement on the Rayleigh wave propagation in piezoelectric solids is
investigated. It is shown that Rayleigh wave becomes dispersive and its phase velocity is
decreased in a region of high frequency when the local mass displacement is considered. It is
shown also that the slow electromagnetic wave occurrence is the result of the Rayleigh wave
propagation in a dielectric body. Therefore this model describes the direct piezoelectric effect.
